Medill Explores: Phoenix

Through Northwestern Medill, as a part of our second quarter curriculum, my classmates and I had the amazing opportunity to travel to Phoenix, AZ for a week to cover the WM Phoenix Open and other various sporting events led by Professor Melissa Isaacson. It was an amazing experience getting to be fully immersed in the life of a sports journalist for the week, fully immersed getting the opportunity to be get an up-close look at the art of being a general assignment sports reporter. During the week I had two stories published in the AZ Republic---one on sustainability at the WM Phoenix Open and one on Steve Kerr as the Warriors were in town to play the Suns. It was an amazing trip and insight to the world that I hope to live in as reality as I enter the job market.

Environment in Edgewater

This fall, as part of my Methods of Journalism course, I covered environmental issues in Edgewater, a lakefront community area on the North Side of the city of Chicago. In the process, I attended several community events and programs hosted by the Edgewater Environmental Coalition. It was a pleasure to observe the organization’s work and the dedication of its members, and I am grateful for their generosity in allowing me to witness firsthand the care and effort they put into serving the community. A couple of my stories are featured on their website and can be found here.
